Lucy Hobbs Taylor, D.D.S. From the time of her arrival in Lawrence, Kansas in 1867 to her death in 1910, Lucy Hobbs Taylor practiced dentistry and was a civic leader.
Taylor was the first woman in the world to receive a doctorate in dentistry.

The first U.S. woman to receive a dental degree, as a 1866 graduate of the Ohio College of Dental Surgery. She actually began practicing in Cincinnati in 1861 after studying privately, but was not allowed to attend the college then. She also practiced in Iowa, where she was elected to the state dental society.
