It's not required, but very helpful as a useful tool for those of us who like to be as accurate as possible. As you can see from my site info, NC would have to be hit about 25 more times since the year 2000 to be in contention with the others. Not that all sites are 100% accurate, but often newscasts aren't either. Jun 01 05, 8:41 PM

Between 1900 and 2004 there have been 174 hurricanes in the USA, which have hit the following States: 64 Florida 38 Texas 29 North Carolina 27 Louisiana 16 South Carolina 12 Alabama (other States are less than 10) http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/paststate.shtml (this is a 2004 table, which probably updates the 2000 numbers in robboy's answer) Jun 01 05, 10:14 PM

....but like robboy states---what happened between 2000-2005 can flip the pancake considerably. Seems Louisiana is a tie with NC, according to this, but it would be interesting to find out where it stands now.. Also, these newscasts could be pulling the info from anywhere.... Jun 01 05, 10:14 PM
