    		I've been to only one, and my invitation came from the director. Others present had been invited by the producers, the studio/distributor, and the tech personnel.

    This was a documentary (it was nominated for an Oscar but didn't win). An old friend who did win an Oscar for a mainstream film tells me that it is possible to get tickets for a premiere, but that you usually need to have connections or some involvement with the film.
