Which governor-general was an ear-fetishist and cross-dresser (even at his wife's funeral) and which famous area of London was named after him?

    Question #57603. Asked by gmackematix.

    lanfranco

This has got to be Edward Hyde, Lord Cornbury, 3rd Earl of Clarendon (1661-1723). He was governor of New York and New Jersey in the very early 18th century, was accused of being a crossdresser, and is said to have delivered a "panegyric" on his wife's ears.

Yay Fransy/Peakie! And for completeness I'll add that the area of London was, of course, Hyde Park.

Pleasure goes to Lan, she had it while I was busy re-reading my site, making sure my eyes didn't deceive me...
