On June 8, a dealer paid $1,000,000 for an item made in France by the same people who christened a certain country. What is this item, when was it made, and what is the country?

The article is one of only four surviving examples of the printed map produced by Martin Waldseemüller and his associates in 1507. These maps were the first to show the world as a globe, and the first to use the name "America" for the New World.

Yay, TT. And you're right, to be accurate, I should written that a certain "part of the world" had been christened, not simply one country. Apologies to the Canadians and Mexicans and to the Central and South Americans.
