    What saved around 2,000 lives in the UK between 1968 and 1971 but was abolished at the end of that period? [This is part of a competition quiz whose entry date expired in the 1980s and I have no idea what the answer is so need a source]

    No time for a source just now -but how about something to do with daylight saving time or British summer time? I know that there was a change to this round about that time - a fairly short lived experiment as far as I recall.

    The experiment meant that we didn't change the clocks for three years instead of twice per year.
