I'll be pedantic and add his name was Gaius Octavius which, in 44BC, he took on the name Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus (Octavian) after the murder of his great uncle, Julius Caesar.
The Roman Senate granted Octavian the name Augustus, meaning "the exalted".
