    A chemistry book advertised on Amazon claims to have an experiment where fireworks are ignited by ice. Does anyone know what chemicals might be involved and how this experiment might work?

    Not me. I don't like fireworks much, but here is the book.

    Yes, that's the book but I'm not paying about $40 to find out.
    I suppose it is something as simple as using ice as a magnifying glass to focus sunlight onto a fuse but it sounded intriguing when I first read it.

    I just had a thought gmack, how about if the ice (in its melted form) was used to ignite ground up sodium, which in turn ignites the fireworks?

    Then again, why didn't he just say 'fireworks ignited by water'? I guess ice would sound more exciting...
