One of her country's best-known authors (within and outside of her native land), she has been described as both a feminist and a "terrible flirt." Among the men she captivated was a lawyer and poet with a musical nickname who produced a work of verse that became even more famous than the author's books. Who was the lady writer, who was her suitor, and for what is each best known?

Sorry, mochyn, but you're heading in the wrong direction.

These are English speakers -- although the poet's best-known work does occasionally have to be "translated" for English speakers in other countries.

Well, I'm leaning toward Miles Franklin as the 'flirt' and Banjo Paterson for the poet.

This woman went blind due to an illness in her infancy. She married a fellow blind teacher, but kept her maiden name. She began her best known career in 1863, and became one of the best known in her field, even today, often using pseudonyms to get most of her work published. Who was she?

This woman was born into lower classes (her mother was a stage performer) and attended the school where her father taught. She eventually took a job as a governess and married the brother of her charges. She was constantly raising her social status, often creating minor scandals. Later in her life, she became reacquainted with a former suitor whose death she may or may not have been involved in. Who is she?

Charlotte Bronte was born on this day in 1816. Each of her sisters who survived into adulthood also became authors. What literary work is Charlotte best known for?

Many of us are familiar with her talents, but they went unrecognized by the public until the press blew her cover (thereby, perhaps, preventing someone better known from winning an Academy Award). She has given "tone" to a Cockney, a Puerto Rican, a sojourner in an exotic land, some angels, and a goose, but it was not until she took the veil that her face was actually seen. Who is this long unsung lady?
