Which nation is credited with inventing the sundial, and is there any one person actually credited with its invention?

According to this site, many ancient civilizations had sundials of one sort or another, but it is not known precisely when and where they were invented. In his bookstore, "The Discoverers," Daniel J. Boorstin speaks of a Egyptian sundial device that survives from the time of Thutmose III (1500 B.C.), but my guess is that the Babylonians were using them long before that:
