That would be avant-garde composer Wallingford Riegger (1885-1961), whose work was described as sounding like "a dying cow emitting mournful groans." (And it's pretty much true, though he won the Coolidge and Padereweski Prizes.) He died after having tripped over a leash during a dogfight:
