Why do open-air sandles cause feet to stink more than those in enclosed shoes?

Question #58296. Asked by LeakyPickle. (Jul 12 05 8:23 PM)

Sandals, and most other summer shoes, are generally worn without stockings or socks. The result is that foot perspiration permeates the leather, canvas, or synthetic material, and no amount of anti-odor spray or powder can combat it.

    And believe me, I've tried.

It makes the most sense when you think about bare, sweaty feet pressed against the sandles all day...and the accumulating bacteria absorbed back into the feet, creating the odor. If you wear socks, they absorb the sweat. Be sure to keep changing your socks :)
