His body was embalmed and his heart buried under a tree in Messolonghi. His remains were sent to England for burial in Westminster Abbey, but the Abbey refused. He is buried at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Hucknall, Nottingham.

Thank you - I'd seen his 'grave' in a Greek cemetery some years ago, but read recently that he was buried in England.

When I was is Messolonghi year ago, I found the house where Byron stayedwhen he died, but no mention of his heart or of any tree, what kind, its location, etc. Any help? I also heard a story that it was his lungs that were left in Greece and that they were subsequently lost. Any information would be greatly appreciated. JDG
