    Like its very close relative the Indian elephant, has anyone ever been able to domesticate an African elephant?

    African elephants (Loxodonta) have been reclassified into two separate species (forest and savannah elephants).
    While these are both larger than Indian elephants, Asian mahouts have recently domesticated them to some extent (no male elephant is ever regarded as fully domesticated).
