    Edgar Dégas, the son of a banker, was born on July 19, 1834. He is best known for his paintings and drawings of ballet-dancers and horse-racing scenes.

    I was born in the second half of the 19th century. In my early life I spent a short time as a writer, but events put an end to that. I enjoyed life as an artist, being an accomplished painter. Later I become involved in trade and worked on social reform to improve the prison system. I developed an interest in aviation and flew aircraft. I tried to get elected to parliment but was defeated. During the 1930s many saw me as a right wing extremist. I saw active service in World War II. I returned to writing for a few years and was rewarded for my efforts. I spent some time in the United States, and died in the second half of the 20th century. Who am I?

    Who am I? Born to Irish immigrants in the second half of the 19th century, my early working life was as an apprentice machinist. After my marriage, I managed a saw mill, later working as an engineer. I lived beyond 80 years and a quote of mine is, "History is more or less bunk..."
