What is the origin of "around the horn" in baseball?

    Question #58466. Asked by fassbass.

    robboy

The shape of the bases forms a curved horn (as in animal horns, not musical), and the action of the double play that goes 5-4-3 is considered to have gone 'around the horn'. A victory toss of the ball after a strike out that goes from 2-5-6-4-3-1 is also considered to be 'going around the horn'.
