What does this mean, its really short "Babam sonunda burda"?

Question #58565. Asked by pjotr. (Jul 29 05 3:32 PM)

If this is Turkish again, it might mean something like "At last, father is here." But I cannot be sure.

This is a Turkish-English translation site, but without knowledge of case endings and so forth, it's hard to use. Still, it's sort of fun.

Can anyone identify a cartoon character for me? I have the image in mind of a short, old guy with a gigantic hat, a bristle moustache, short stature. I thought he was one of Li'l Abner's characters or one of Popeye's characters, but a search of both websites nixed that idea. The image I have says "Maw's Problem." He seems to be associated with moonshine in some manner.

It began during World War I, partly under the influence of a certain entertainer, and the trend was sped on its way by a famous writer's short story and the unique style of a couple of actresses. Divorces occurred over it, women lost their jobs, even physicians weighed in; but in the end, a certain profession expanded rapidly because of it. What was this development, what was that short story, and can you name the entertainer and one or two of the actresses involved?
