    Peasy, could it perhaps be Saint Hubert of Liege?
    On a hunting trip, he began to hunt a stag, and noticed it had a crucifix between it's antlers. Out of nowhere, a voice said "Hubert, unless you turn to the Lord, and lead a holy life, you shall quickly go down to hell." His wife died shortly after this incident, and he gave up everything and studied for priesthood.
