Which UK number one hit of the early nineties was mostly sung by someone who was in TV's "Grange Hill"? Who did she play in "Grange Hill" and what does the hit song's first line mean?

Question #58711. Asked by gmackematix. (Aug 08 05 7:52 PM)

I can get part of the way on this one. The song was "Dub be Good to me" by Beats International. The singer was Lindy Layton, who I think played a character called Cathy in "Grange Hill". Not sure of surname though!
The first line of the song is "Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty", but I'm afraid I don't know what that actually means!
    Can I have half a point? :)

A jam hot yay for the song and singer. As for the part? I can find no Lindy Layton in "Grange Hill" and no website seems to link her with a particular part.
However, a GH site says that Lindy Brill, who played Cathy Bradshaw, attempted to sing for Eurovision in 1983 but never made it to the main competition. She then formed a group called Hardknox. There's no mention of Beats International but Brill and Layton may be the same.
As for "Tank fly boss..." I haven't a clue and don't know of anyone who would. Maybe it is just twaddle.

I did find a Grange Hill fans messageboard earlier, which indicated that Lindy Brill was known as Lindy Layton when she appeared on the Beats International hit. I am not too sure how acurate the posts are though, as one person seemed to think she played the part of Cathy Hargreaves. Wish my memory was a bit better.... :)
