Why are the bottom of clouds flat?

Beg to differ... They do APPEAR to be flat (even though they are not actually flat)...
Why? Mainly because clouds begin to form at certain levels above the ground, which are so far away from us, and which distance from ground is generally uniform to begin with... all of which contributes to the illusion that the clouds have flat bottoms.
