In UK road tunnels why are the entrance lights orange/yellow and the exit lights are white?

    Question #58756. Asked by trevynik.

    satguru

It's because of the relative darkness inside, combined with the human eye's reaction to changing light levels. Therefore if it's daytime, the orange lights are to get the eyes used to the darkness inside the tunnel, and the white light at the end to reduce the pupils gradually so you're not dazzled by the light when you leave it.
