    Why, when boxing, did the old time boxers constantly flick their noses with their thumbs?

    It doesn't mean anything obscene and I don't find a verifying site, but it's a nervous tic that good trainer's will try to eliminate from the boxer's moves because it telegraphs what's coming next.
