    What is the connection between a European archeologist and explorer, a Middle Eastern storyteller and an African American comedian?

    		I doubt this is the answer but archaeologist and explorer Sir Richard Burton famously translated into English the Arabian Nights told (in the story) by Scheherezade.
    The most famous of those tales is "Sinbad the Sailor" and Sinbad is the name of a US stand-up comic and actor who starred with Lisa Bonet in a spin-off of "The Cosby Show".

    I was quite surprised to read that neither Aladdin nor Ali Baba were in the original tales.

    		Another possible answer to the "archaeologist and explorer" portion of the question is Antoine Galland (1646-1715), the first translator of "The Arabian Nights."
