A pitcher is pitching a perfect game, and with 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth, the batter hits a fly ball to center. The centerfielder, in his excitement, drops the fly ball. The batter tries to get to second, and the centerfielder guns him down. Does the pitcher get a perfect game, no-hitter, or neither?

This is what the Maven and I think: the centerfielder would be charged with an error, therefore the pitcher would not get credit for a perfect game. But because the batter would not get credit for a hit, the pitcher would receive credit for a no-hitter.

Fielder's errors will destroy perfect games but not no-hitters.

A bit simpler way of eliminating the perfect game possibility is that the batter was advanced to first.
That the batter continued on to be ultimately tagged out, eliminates the hit from the books.
