    When was the lion first used as a symbol of British royalty?

    		According to http://www.fleurdelis.com/royal.htm the first proven arms for an English monarch were Henry II's "Gules a lion rampant". Richard Coeur de Lion adopted a new coat of arms: "Gules three lions passant guardant". The three lions are supposed to represent England, Normandy and Aquitaine.
    Originally however the lion in the English coat of arms seems to have been a heritage from the first Duke of Normandy Rollo.
