It was considered a place where an Empire ended, a place filled with riches. It was an offering for a 'crime of worship to a false deity' of a sentenced leader. Where is this place, who was the leader, and what was the resulting death sentence?

I'm going to guess that this is the famous "ransom room," in Cajamarca, Peru, supposedly filled with treasure by Incan emperor Atahualpa, in exchange for his freedom and his life (he'd been accused of idolatry, among other things, by Francisco Pizarro and his Spaniards.) In fact, Atahualpa was executed by strangulation in 1533, and the Inca Empire came to an end.

This place, once a "seeing place," has seen it all: first a stronghold, it's been a walking place, a drinking place, a disbarking place, a swimming place (but not for people), a singing place, and now an embarking place. Oddly enough, never a drumming place, though virtually in a former shooting place that still retains the name. Named for a politician, then renamed horticulturally, it's again named for the politician, no relation to other more recent ones of the same name. Where in the United States is it?

After the TV show "Gilligan's Island" ended I remember seeing at least two episodes of a spinoff show that took place in the American West. The "Skipper" was the leader of a wagon train, "Gilligan" was his bumbling sidekick, there was a Maryann-like schoolmarm, a Professor-like intellectual, a wealthy couple, and a dancehall girl. Does anyone remember this series, and who was in it?

It started exactly eleven years ago, when someone in a place of worship made an offering to a zoomorphic idol. The "miracle" quickly spread all over a certain country and then abroad, causing traffic jams and a run on a common beverage. Scientists came up with a rational explanation, but the phenomenon supposedly recurred just last month. What am I talking about, and what did the scientists have to say about it?
