In a "Home Improvment" episode where Tim's brother is staying at his house, at the end Tim checks Wilson's basment. I dont get it. Why is it a cave?

Wilson does a lot of strange things. The humor is found in the idea that where we expect to find a basement, at Wilson's house it is something so completely different from what we'd expect, in this case a cave. Nearly every time we see Wilson, he is practicing some ridiculous ritual or performing some strange feat...
There is even the ongoing anticipation of just how are they going to hide half of Wilson's face in each new situation. I remember one episode where the Taylors visited Wilson for Thanksgiving, and while Wilson moved around the house, his face still remained half hidden behind, for instance, a chandelier.
