What English village occurs in a popular 18th century poem as the site of a humble country churchyard and in a famous 20th century novel as the (fictional) location of a "frequently visited golf course"?

    Question #59073. Asked by Flem-ish. (Aug 28 05 9:36 PM)

    TabbyTom

Thomas Gray's "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard" was inspired by the churchyard at Stoke Poges in Buckinghamshire. In Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World," Stoke Poges is the site of an "obstacle golf" course, visited by Henry Foster and Lenina Crowne.
