Not only are there few wasps but the birds are also leaving early and we are seeing fish not usually seen in British waters. The blackberries have come and nearly gone and it's not even September yet. It all spells doom I tells ya.

This is a two part answer. 1) I agree, though I'm over 100 miles from you, I haven't seen more than a couple of wasps this summer, mainly indoors. but
2) I just had new guttering installed, and they found one old and one new wasp nest, and there was no shortage of activity for the couple of days before they removed them, but for some reason they don't seem to be straying far from the nests at the moment.

Perhaps they're afraid that if they do, when they go back their nests will be gone. That's what happened to yours after all... ;) But it just feels very very strange! Normally at this time of year on beaches and at picnics, barbecues and whatever, you are fighting them off! Where are they all? I haven't seen one!

No problem where I am at...USA, lots of yellowjackets and black bald face hornets. The geese are going back early though, hundreds came over the other day.
