    		Must be catnip. (Nepeta cataria, derived from the Italian town of Nepete.)

    The chemical Nepetalactone is what you are referring to, yes?

    Anyway, my lousy browser isn't showing the text of your site visibly.
    But I'm sure it mentions that when catnip leaves or stems are damaged they give off a whiff of nepetalactone, which drives the 75% of cats so genetically disposed into an ecstatic frenzy.
    The chemical is also one of the best mosquito repellents known.
