Which United States president has the most descendants?

    Question #59193. Asked by Helena411. (Sep 05 05 9:14 PM)

Considering what we now know about his relationship with Sally Hemings two centuries ago, it might well be Jefferson, one of the seminal figures in U.S.
    history.

Subject: Which President had/has the most grandchildren?

For a query of this type, I would recommend Burke's Presidential Families of the United States of America. 1st ed. London: Burke's Peerage Limited, 1975. It recounts in exhaustive detail the parents, siblings, and descendents of all U.S. Presidents up to that time.

The president with the largest number of descendants, however, has got to be Thomas Jefferson--the listing of his descendants covers 26 pages in Burke's!

There's even a club of Jefferson's descendants, who by now number in the hundreds, and they're trying to avoid the inclusion of his descendants by Salley Hemmings (their excuse is not that she was black, but that she was of a lower class, "we're not racists, we're snobs" in the words of one of them).
