Archaeologists in Turkey are just beginning to excavate an ancient site, successively occupied by various cultures, where a form of government that influenced some of the U.S. founding fathers was once headquartered. Where, exactly, is this so-called "cradle of democracy" and what was the government in question called?

Yay, peasy! Just the right article. I've been interested in the Lycian League ever since I had to do a grad school project on a Lycian tomb, but I didn't know that Alexander Hamilton and James Madison had also paid attention to this apparent early form of parliamentary democracy.
