Apart from seeing it in "Did you know" type lists I'd like to see some respectable evidence that Isaac Newton did so.
I mean, I know he had a dog called Diamond who tipped a candle onto some papers, but is there record of Newton actually having a cat?

Good grief! I think I need glasses. Do you know I read all the way through gmack's response and wondered what on earth cats had to do with flat caps, and why Isaac Newton would have invented them. I think I'm losing it...

gmack, you have to get a Yay.I heard this today on the radio.Apparently Newton was very fond of cats. To ensure they didn't disturb him too much he had a 'cat flap' put into the door of his house.According to the radio, he even had a smaller one put in for when his cats had kittens.

Well, Maggie, a flat cap would be handy for keeping your head warm whilst sitting under apple trees or on giants' shoulders.
