    Actually, lemon juice can discolor clothes. However, both white vinegar and baking soda are very useful:

    I have a tips book which says that a basic stain removal kit should include:
    "Glycerine, oil of eucalyptus, borax powder, pure soap, 1001 carpet shampoo, white vinegar, household ammonia, white spirit, Fuller's Earth and possibly an enzyme washing powder"
    Stain removal largely works on the acid v alkali basis so vinegar sounds good.

    Note that some materials won't stand any attempted stain removal.
