How is nuclear waste disposed of?

They tend to surround it in a concrete block and bury it, so that the half-life can go and erode itself, but most of the radiation can't escape through the conrete.

Most of the high level waste is reprocessed, the residue being sealed in a type of glass and buried deep underground in stable areas. Low and medium level waste is usually buried in similar areas.
