Is this Patrick Moore? He is said to be fond of the xylophone and once accompanied Einstein on the piano as they played "Le Cygne" by Saint-Saens.

Yay! I was indeed referring to the monocled eccentric astronomer with the oversized suits who I think has presented "The Sky At Night" every month except one since it started in 1957.

Albert Einstein was indeed the violinist.

He once played the xylophone before the Queen as one of the guest stars in the Royal Variety Show.
As well as playing, he is an amateur writer music and opera. A friend of mine, who is a professional classical musician with an interest in astronomy, used to orchestrate for Patrick moore in return for the use of his personal astronomical telescope. Music and astronomy seem to go together.
