Cotton prices played a great role in America before oil was discovered. Because most of America's cotton came from the Southern states, businessmen there figured they needed to incorporate slaves as their primary workforce. In fact, England would have supported the Confederacy during the Civil War, if Prince Albert hadn't maintatined the foreign policy of strict neutrality.

Heating oil prices have also risen sharply, this will be a difficult winter.
Actually the cost of all products have now increased becaused the price of shipping them is has become so expensive due to the high cost of gasoline.
