I know gas prices have risen dramatically lately, but have any other prices been drastically affected in normal American society besides gasoline prices?

It's interesting that we find out certain things when something else happens. I have a friend in the carpet/flooring business, and he's been wringing his hands over price increases in his line of goods, many of which are petroleum based products like vinyl, carpet padding, materials needed for installation, etc. This site explores many more:

Cotton prices played a great role in America before oil was discovered. Because most of America's cotton came from the Southern states, businessmen there figured they needed to incorporate slaves as their primary workforce. In fact, England would have supported the Confederacy during the Civil War, if Prince Albert hadn't maintatined the foreign policy of strict neutrality.

Heating oil prices have also risen sharply, this will be a difficult winter.

Actually the cost of all products have now increased becaused the price of shipping them is has become so expensive due to the high cost of gasoline.
