Why is the eagle's head in The Great Seal of the United States facing to the right?

    Question #59961. Asked by my_baby_love. (Oct 13 05 8:33 PM)

In the ancient world, the right side was considered the side of good, righteousness, etc. and the left side (called the sinister side) was associated with evil.

I'd say the eagle is looking to the right for its associations to this kind of classical mythology (or superstition, if you prefer).

... come to think of it... I just found this very interesting website... It explains that the eagle as we know it today faces to the right because it holds the olive branch of peace in its right talons.
