In linguistics, a "toponym" is a name or term derived from a place or region. Who can give me a toponym that means "highly complex," "intricate," or "labyrinthine"?

Question #60083. Asked by lanfranco. (Oct 19 05 5:21 PM)

    Byzantine.

The word is derived from Byzantium (later known as Constantinople and Istanbul), the seat of the eastern Roman empire.

It probably gets is meaning from the complex structure of the imperial administration or the tortuosity of its politics.

Franco, you yourself just used a toponym... "labyrinthine" which is derived from the Labyrinth of the Minotaur myths.

    TT, you are correct. Yay!

Strictly speaking, Josh, a labyrinth, even the famed mythological example on Crete, is a thing, not a place. But I will admit that it is included on this list:

At the bottom, images of black musicians. At the top, a coded toponym. What is the name of this landmark at the intersection of a boulevard with the same toponym and a street whose name represents a twining plant?

What is the difference between an exonym and a toponym?

Tonight, I am cooking something that properly requires an ingredient dating back centuries in one country, though a region of another country has a closely-related name for it. In that first nation, its name has become an insult, possibly derived from a mildly-pejorative term in a third country, while the dish I am making is associated with a specific region in yet a fourth nation. If I tell you that I went out to buy this ingredient and some seafood this morning, can you tell me what I am making and what this item is?
