As I have said in other replies, my "x"is a nurse, and there is a term used called
"olfactory burnout", which means you get used to it.Also to help keep infections down the O.R. is kept quite cool, so I think this would help with the smell. I am sure anyone who watches "CSI", or similar shows has seen the "Bengay" under the nose trick used, I havent heard of it being used in the O.R.

This is not internal but supposedly the feet are the smelliest part of the body.

I would have though it was the kidneys. Ammonialicious.

Thanks for that Daddio! As for you MBL, speak for yourself!
In a recent episode of "House" the doctors failed to spot that a patient's jaw infection gave him killer breath. I was starting to wonder if long exposure to great smell starts to make medics a little anosmic after a while.
As for the smelliest part, the ammonia is an interesting thought. I was thinking that the acidity of the stomach must give it a certain fragrance, but then the gall bladder and large intestine can't be too pleasant either.
Excuse me while I go look up "Bengay".

A topical analgesic for muscle aches, arthritis, and other joint pain. It'll knock you out with its mentholated smell, gmack, but I'm not sure that BenGay is even made any longer. You can now buy the same stuff without the odor.
Didn't they use Vick's Vaporub in "Silence of the Lambs"?

Any strong mentholated OTC would work.I probably should have stayed away from the brand name. I tried the rubs without the menthol, and they didn't seem to work. I would think a ruptured appendix would be quite bad.
