January 10th is celebrated as such in the Falkland Islands although it is not an official public holiday.
I don't know why this date was chosen.
I do know Lady Thatcher turned down an invitation for the 20th anniversary of the Falklands beause 86-year old Denis was too frail to make the 18-hour flight and she wouldn't leave him.

In the Falkland Islands, Margaret Thatcher Day is celebrated as a public holiday every 10 January, commemorating her visit on this date in 1983, seven months after the military victory; the decision was taken by the Falklands Islands legislature in 1992.
Margaret Thatcher was the first female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. During her time in Downing Street she changed the face of British politics and left an indelible mark on world history.
