Which well-known 'house' in the US has a massive gargoyle situated on its roof which only appears once a year, and on what date does it get uncovered?

Question #60350. Asked by peasypod. (Nov 03 05 3:07 PM)

Peasy- Long time no type..was skimming thru ?'s and saw this one. I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's Stephen King's house, and he unveils the gargoyle on Halloween. Are you in on the Global Challenge?

Um, no, not Stephen King, but yes it is Halloween. Since this one has left the safe surrounds of the unanswereds, I guess I better leave a (very generous) clue now.

Think mature-aged gent in dressing gown, cigar and a bevy of scantily clad women.

Well since you put it that way... Could it be where resides "The Girls Next Door" at Hef's place?????

The mood was set early on as I pulled my car into the circle driveway and was greeted by the site of a pair of glowing-eyed gargoyles perched atop the Mansion's roof--and not just a pair of cheap plastic molds with a lightbulb inside. These stony, ugly fellows actually belched smoke, turned their heads from side to side and actually fluttered their massive wings. On a nearby tree, a not-quite-dead corpse swung herky-jerky from a noose, just paces away from a towering guillotine.

I have often read that in the Middle Ages in Britain (and elsewhere), New Year was celebrated on March 25th. Does this mean that the number of the year actually changed on that date, and if not, was there another name given to the date on which the year number actually changed?
