    "Operation Thunderclap". The "Florence on the Elbe" was of course Dresden.

    So it was, and there is still no unanimous opinion
    on the true number of casualties nor on the military reasons for this "thunderclap".

    Impressive documentation.
    Yet I missed a reference to the excellent novel that was published on this topic by leading Dutch author Harry Mulisch, son of an
    Austrian nazi officer and ..a Jewish mother. The English version was published as " The Stone Bridal Bed".
    German author Norbert Schaeffer adapted the novel into a radio-play: "Das steinerne Brautbett."
