You need some cholesterol in your body. good cholesterol has certain minerals that you need therefore you need it. bad cholesterol has no minerals you need but it does have things that make you fat and not healthy.

This is actually quite incorrect. Cholesterol has nothing to do with mineral nutrition, and "bad" cholesterol doesn't make you fat.
Cholesterol serves many functions in the body- it is a necessary comonent of cell membranes, hormones, etc. There are two types of cholesterol- HDL or high density lipoprotein and LDL or low density lipoprotein. HDL, the "good" cholesterol, actually works to transport excess cholesterol to the liver to be excreted. LDL, the "bad" cholesterol, tends to stick around and form deposits in blood vessels.
