Are you sure that the quotation is from Chaucer? The earliest use of "earthbound" in the Oxford English Dictionary is from Shakespeare.

It sounds as though we are talking about daisies... and it was Shelley who called them "earthbound stars"...
Chaucer described it as his favourite flower, the only plant which could "soften all my sorrow", while Shelley likened daisies to earthbound stars --- "Those pearled Arcturi of the Earth, the constellated flower that never sets".
