If you guys are going to answer a question like this, you're going to have to provide a source. These one-word answers with no supporting reference are going to go.
United States officials said that information technology held promise for creating economic opportunity as well as improving access to health care and education. But they noted that while there are now an estimated 332 million people connected via the Internet around the world, only 1 percent live in Africa. And less than 5 percent of the computers connected to the Internet are in developing countries.

There are at least two further problems with this question. #1 Why choose the year 2000? Of course, it may be the most recent year for which statistics are available, but I imagine the position may have changed since 2000. #2 When referring to "folks connected" does the question mean in their own homes or does it include access in schools, colleges, libraries and so on?
