There seems to be quite a few 'first recorded parachute jumps' which tends to pose more questions....
Anyhow, I guess we can start with Arman Firman, a Muslim holy man, tried to fly in Cordoba, Spain in 852 AD, if you call his cloak a parachute.
In the 15th century we have Leonardo's sketches which I presume someone must have tried it out.
In 1785, a French guy (Blanchard) dropped his dog in a basket to which a parachute was attached.
In 1797, Garnerin who designed the first air vents in parachutes, seems to be the first one to jump with one without using a rigid frame.
But, I think I like I like this one the best:
Sometime in the late 1700's Joseph Mongolfier who invented the hot air baloon, dropped a sheep off a tower in Avignon, France, in a basket and canopy.
