The man was P Clodius Pulcher, who attended the mysteries of the Bona Dea (Good Goddess) in Rome in 62 BC/AUC 692. Some people said that he was having an affair with Pompeia, the wife of the Pontifex Maximus Julius Caesar: others think it was just a practical joke.
