The man was P Clodius Pulcher, who attended the mysteries of the Bona Dea (Good Goddess) in Rome in 62 BC/AUC 692.
Some people said that he was having an affair with Pompeia, the wife of the Pontifex Maximus Julius Caesar: others think it was just a practical joke. He was tried for sacrilege the following year, but acquitted.
He was caught by Caesar’s mother Aurelia.
