Sounds like the Glastonbury Thorn (Crataegus monogyna var biflora) allegedly brought there by Joseph. Original one cut down in 1653 and a cutting was planted instead. Can't find a resurrection after 2000 years, though.

Good answer but no, this is something that has been discovered in recent years. And it is a plant.

This question was so long ago I can hardly remember what the answer was but I recall it was something archaeologists found in Herod's palace.
