What connects a man who appears in the Christmas nativity story and a variety resurrected after 2000 years?

Question #60881. Asked by gmackematix. (Dec 06 05 9:40 PM)

Sounds like the Glastonbury Thorn (Crataegus monogyna var biflora) allegedly brought there by Joseph. Original one cut down in 1653 and a cutting was planted instead. Can't find a resurrection after 2000 years, though.

Oh sorry, Baloo. Didn't see that answer there.

Good answer but no, this is something that has been discovered in recent years. And it is a plant.

This question was so long ago I can hardly remember what the answer was but I recall it was something archaeologists found in Herod's palace.

Ah, found it again. It is the Judaean date palm which seems to have been wiped out at the time of the Roman attack on Masada.

Although there are varying reports of whom created it, one theory involves an implement most likely invented by the Egyptians 3500 years ago, but theoretically this applies to the Roman variety from 2000 years ago. Apparently it was invented to initiate a welcoming feeling in a time of great despair almost 80 years ago. What is it, what was the implement, and what are the essential ingredients?
