# In miles per hour, how fast does the Earth travel around the Sun?

Question #6097. Asked by Ben. (Sep 17 00 10:25 PM)

JReid

Assuming for this calculation that the average distance of the Earth to the Sun is 93 million miles, that the orbit is circular (which it is not), and that the motion of the sun itself is not taken into account, the speed works out to 33,330 miles per hour. It's a wonder we don't all get blown off.

JReid is half right. The radius is 93 million, the diameter is 186 million, and the speed is 66,600.
